One of the things we did as part of our CPD last year was to develop a reusable lesson structure that could be applied to any subject for a certain type of lesson. The legendary trio that was Mr. Clarke, Mr. Thomas and I designed a lesson that was reusable from GCSE to A-Level based around getting students to engage with past paper questions and develop the quality of their answers.
The basic idea is to start with a group discussion, dissecting what the question is asking. Split into smaller sub groups to plan the content, smaller groups again to produce good quality sentences to cover the content, then to individually produce a model answer from those resources. This allows students with low confidence or literacy to join in the action and begin to analyse the questions more specifically. After some mean peer assessment we can loop around to start a new question.
Please feel free to download and reuse the PDF outline of the lesson plan, and let us know how you get on in using it.
